WINTER IS STILL GOING STRONG......DONT GET CAUGHT OUT!
DONT FORGET, we can have very cold snaps through the winter. Dont let your car fall foul of poor general maintainance. Look through the list below & see if we can't help protect you a little.
1. ANTIFREEZE. Although you may have antifreeze in your car do you know how cold it will go down to before IT freezes? Antifreeze has a freezing point & unless the strength is high enough then it too can freeze your cooling system...especially when the chill-factor of a "north easterly" is taken into account.
2. TOP LEVELS UNDER THE BONNET. It is very important to a safe drive to ensure that all your levels under the bonnet are topped up. If you run out of windscreen washer fluid on a journey or the washers don't hit the screen due to poor adjustment of the jets, then this is dangerous! The roads this time of year are particularly dirty. Make sure your wipers actualy clear the screen & are not just for show.
3. WHEELS, TYRES & PRESSURES. It is vital that there is enough tread depth on all your tyres & that the pressures are set to the correct level. Without these, your brakeing distance & cornering ability will be greatly effected. One common cause of accidents on the road this time of year is leaves & mud on the roads. This is as slippery as ice. Good tyres & correct pressures are essential.
4. AIR CONDITIONING. Yes, thats right, air conditioning. Not only should your air conditioning be switched on weekly during the winter to keep it operational for the summer, but it is a FANTASTIC de-mister & de-icer when used properly. It can clear your screen in a few seconds. Not only that, but you can use it with the heater on HOT for the rest of the journey. It also cleans the air coming into your car if you are stuck in a traffic jam and being covered in fumes from traffic in front.
